Leather clutch with strap, Penh - About the name
This black leather clutch is named after the capital of Cambodia Phnom Penh, which I moved to when I was seven. It is the largest, most populous and most developed city in Cambodia. Today it is home to about 2.2 million people. The city was once known as the pearl of Asia, as it is packed with many beautiful French buildings and French architecture, which was built when Cambodia was still a French colony. The town is also located along the banks of the Mekong, Tonle Sap and Bassac rivers, therefore there are some amazing riverside views.
My first impression of Phnom Penh
My first experiences with the city were scary. The streets were dusty, people shouted loudly across the streets, the air was dry, the locals stared uncontrollably much, and the horns of motorcycles and cars were almost constantly pushed to the bottom. Back then, Phnom Penh was not a tourist town, and white skin was a rare sight. Therefore, I also could not move in some places without being punched in the cheeks or gripped so hard in the arm that I often had to pull it aggressively towards myself. It sounds weird, but that's how it really was! In addition, they also shouted "Srey sa'aat" after me. It means "beautiful girl", but a girl like me did not want to be called beautiful at all as an 8-year-old, so I often answered back with a sour "NO!".
A new start
I felt like I had been put into a world of unknown culture and chaos.
The same feeling traveled inside me when I started the company MicMic. Everything was unknown, everything was new, and nothing was as expected - very scary, but even more exciting!
This leather clutch with strap was my very first design and gave me the same feeling! Therefore, the clutch has inherited the name.
It is designed by me, and is therefore exclusively Danish design.
You can also find a leather clutch without a strap right here.
